Stopped for a private tour and lunch in downtown Appleton, WI. The building we toured burnt down in1884, and rebuilt, opening as Appleton Brewing and Malting, and operating until Prohibition in 1919, when it was used for storage.
Remodeled around 1972, the building was a shopping mall until 1989, when it became a brewpub, The Alder Brau Brewery and Restaurant.
2004 marked the start of the building’s current incarnation, when the occupying business was named Stone Cellar Brewpub, and it was run by father and son partners, Tom & Steve Lonsway. In 2012, they began marketing their beers under the Stone Arch name to local bars & restaurants. Today, it is the oldest operating brewpub in the state.
Love the history and the next to last photo.
That was a t-shirt for sale at the brewpub, and now I wish I’d gotten one for Page.
